The Messy Desks of Jobs, Einstein, and Twain

Monday, February 6th, 2012

from the source

Anyways, they say that “Messiness is often associated with artistic, creative and scientific or mathematical genius, spontaneity, but also with carelessness, eccentricity, madness and unreliability.”

They also noted that other messy-deskers were Francis Bacon, Alexander Fleming, and Alan Turing.

there’s a quote from the play Arcadia by Tom Stoppard that goes something like

there’s an island of order in a sea of madness (chaos?)

i always try to google this phrase but i could never find it so i keep think that i got it from the wrong place
but anyways, you rise above the mess ……….! and create irregardless?

7 Life-changing quotes from Mark Twain

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

1. “I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.”

2. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

3. “When people do not respect us we are sharply offended; yet in his private heart no man much respects himself.”

4. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

5. “When angry, count to four. When very angry, swear.”

6. “Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living; the world owes you nothing; it was here first.”

7. “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear.”

That number 7 says a lot, and is definitely not anyone’s first time hearing things like ‘mastery of fear’ but how to go about doing it?

Ralph Lauren bigpony x fashiontoast

Monday, April 4th, 2011

this is a weird feeling
when you’ve followed a blogger for a long enough time, and when you see them on stuff, you feel like you’re watching a relative or a friend, when you’ve never ever spoken to them before.
i’ve always felt on and off about rumi but recently i definitely started liking her a lot more

in this cologne ad she did for RL, it stars herself and her real life boyfriend Colin.
I’ve seen Colin in pictures here and there but I don’t know what he looks like…now i do
anyways, a really cute ad, and kind of suspenseful
not really something you’d expect
but great stuff

the ending is funny :D

Anna Wintour Things

Thursday, March 24th, 2011

The Anna Wintour profile in the WSJ is online, horray, get your reading glasses on!

Here’s Bryan Boy’s brief encounter with Anna at Alexander Wang at New York Fashion week, and his thoughts on it.

I hope one day I get invited to fashion week, I’ve been to Vancouver fashion week, so not that, never again.

edit: was reading through the comments and people are being hater-ish. No please don’t call me a fashion sycophant and that I’d wanna enter the world of fashion and sip champagnes and fake laugh and wear heels too high for me. UM, no thanks. I shop at the gap for god’s sake. But, fashion allows for creativity that needs to be commended, and I support things that allow for people to be creative. Anna has done a lot of good for keeping art alive and fashion is, in some sense, while others might not agree, art. And keeping creativity afloat is much more important than numbers itself, because, well, i for one, feel dead when I’m doing menial labor. THAT BEING SAID, there should be a balance between the two and I think Anna understands that for people to be interested in fashion, and donate money towards a good reason like the museums (which are free or by donation in NYC, or as I remembered it) and nurturing creative people forces her to figure out ways to make money, and yeah, that means being a bit elitist at times.

I’m not defending her, I don’t know her.

But just sayin’, so no hate.

Street fashion blog recommendation: Stylites

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

I just came back from my month long trip to china…
while only a mere 5 days was spent in beijing….

beijing surprised me! when did my birth place get so stylish?

Japanese and Korean street style has been famous over the interwebs for a while now, i haven’t seen much about beijing even though it has becoming a bubbling hub of culture.

i stumbled on this blog called Stylites where this American dude photographs stylish people on the street with very interesting and worldly commentary.

i might pull photographs for my street compilations although i would hope there will be photos of higher resolution soon.
